Endangered Animal of India - Asiatic Lion


Where is the lion of Gir? Ask tourists at Sarthana zoo. It is run by Surat
Municipal Corporation. Despite their arrival before two month, the lions at the Sarthana zoo have not been set on show. Hence, it seems wildlife lovers or Asiatic Lions lovers will have to wait till one year for glimpses of Asiatic lion. The reason is the animal exchange plan from Rajkot Sakarbaug zoo.
The zoo officers are delaying the show of the Asiatic lions while they are still waiting some other species such as Manipur deer, exchange programs from Sakarbaug zoo. A pair of the Asiatic Lions has got the Sarthana zoo in the first time. Awaiting zoo had got single hybrid lion 25 years old but last year a 21 years old lioness died in the zoo.

A couple of the Asiatic lion was brought from the Sakarbaug zoo to the Sarthana zoo in the October’s third week 2011. Since then big cat has been reserved in the captivity. The king of jungle is missing from eyes of the tourists, who are keenly waiting to see it.

After reported arrival of the Asiatic lion, I visited this zoo with my family but we have to return without seeing the king of jungle. I have been taking inquiry about the Asiatic lion but forest department not providing actually right answer, said Sidharth Rana, from Delhi.

Said authorities of the zoo the couple of Asiatic lions have undergone victorious quarantine for over two and one month and now they are prepared to set-up for tourists in the Sarthana zoo. Now we program to hold the function in the end of the December to January’s first week after getting many species are like Manipur deer from the Sakarbaug zoo, it was said by Praful Mehta in charge and superintendent of the Sarthana zoo.
Asked why authorities of the zoo can’t get the official programme completed for the public show of Asiatic lion. Mehta said, “It is impossible to present the dignitaries such as a mayor, when every species of the animals arriving from Sakarbaung zoo. The forest department are waiting for all species of animal below the animal exchange programmes to arrive at the zoo, thus we can keep a function.
