Tiger’s Skin, Bones and Claws seized on the Indo- Nepal border and Uttarakhand


18th January 2012, a biggest tiger skin was seized by department of the Naxal bari Customs Division. Skin was seized at Panithanki in the Darjeeling district of the West Bengal on the Indo- Nepal border, India. One 60 years old criminal was arrested. He is a Nepalese citizen and is belong to Lumbini in the eastern Nepal. A large cash amount was too recovered from the criminal. First time was seized the skin of a tiger at Indo- Nepal border post said by Officer of Customs Division. Although, they had former time seized a rhino horn and two leopard skin. This news is very bad for wildlife organisations and forest and environment department of Indian government. Many wildlife and tiger lovers have despairing been after read this news.

Another bad news for tigers and wildlife lovers has happened on the 11th January 2012 in the Uttarakhand state of India. 9 kilogram bones of tiger, 3 canines,18 claws of the tiger and whiskers of tiger was seized by Special Operations Group of the Kumaon Forest Range helped by Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) from Kotabagh area near the Ramnagar in the Uttarakhand on the 11th January 2012. A criminal (person) was arrested.

One another accused was also arrested during the combined operation. Two kilogram bone of leopard was later seized from another accused during the combined action led by Paramjit Singh, Chief Preservation of the forests.

On the 9th January, 7 steel jaw traps which used for the trapping leopards and wild animals were too seized from the village in the Dauli area near Haldwani. This news is alarming for wildlife department and WPSI but forest department, WPSI and other wildlife organisation have not alerting so far.

Wildlife crime database of WPSI have recorded level in the last two years. In the last two years, these figures have recorded the hunting and seizure of body parts of 365 leopards and 43 tigers. Uttarakhand has taken first rank in the wildlife crime action with the about 32 % of all leopard and tiger deaths figures from across the India.  This figure is very worry for government of Uttarakhand and WSPI.   

Leopards and tigers are listed in the 1 schedule of the wildlife protection Act. Any person has fond involving in this crime (hunting these species) that is punishable with the fine 10,000 and hard imprisonment three between seven years. Now poaching of the tigers and the leopards occurs mainly for there body parts, bones, claws and skin. Body parts of these species are demanding in the China, Korea, Japan, Pakistan and much more countries. It is a main threat to wild animals. Fortunately, Uttarakhand government is also making hard law for wildlife criminal in the last two weeks.
